Keep Me Fed? More Like Keep Me Rocked – The Warning Serve It Loud
THE WARNING

The Warning was formed in 2013 by the Villarreal Vélez sisters, aged between 7 and 13 at the time, inspired by their parents' love for the video game Rock Band.

In 2014, they released a viral YouTube video of themselves playing a cover of Metallica’s Enter Sandman, which catapulted them to internet fame. This sudden attention brought numerous opportunities, including trips to the United States and the release of their GoFundMe-funded EP Escape the Mind in 2015, featuring original material.

Their first full-length album, the independently released XXI Century Blood, arrived in 2017. The music video for the title track won awards and led to opportunities to perform at larger festivals, including opening for major acts like The Killers.

Their second full-length album, Queen of the Murder Scene, came out in 2018 and brought even more festival appearances, along with the announcement of a North American tour – although this was unfortunately cancelled due to the Covid pandemic.

In 2020, the band signed with Lava Records, releasing the EP Mayday in 2021 and the full-length album Error in 2022. With label support behind them, The Warning landed opening slots for major artists, played at festivals around the world, and in September 2023, performed at the MTV Video Music Awards – a huge milestone in their journey.

In 2024, they completed sold-out tours across Europe and Japan, releasing their Keep Me Fed album during this time. The album charted impressively across Europe, even reaching No. 1 on the UK Rock Charts.

April of 2025 saw the band embark on a short European tour, culminating in a sold-out show at Brixton Academy – their biggest UK headline show to date. The Warning were supported by Sophie Lloyd, a renowned guitarist who has toured extensively both as a solo artist and alongside established bands, including performing as guitarist for Machine Gun Kelly’s band.

Sophie’s performance was a brilliant way to kick off the night. With a set that blended shredding solos, heavy riffs, and melodic hooks, she captivated the crowd from the very first note. Backed by a tight live band, she delivered tracks that showcased not only her technical precision but also her flair for showmanship. Dressed in her signature rockstar style and commanding the stage with ease, Sophie connected with the audience between songs, hyping the crowd and building excitement for the main act. Her energy was infectious, and the cheers she received proved that she wasn’t just a warm-up – she was an event in her own right. Her exceptional playing and stage presence made her the perfect opener for The Warning and set a high bar for the night.

The Warning’s set opened with three hard-hitting tracks from the recent Keep Me Fed album. The sisters’ years of playing together were immediately evident – they were incredibly tight as a unit. The stage setup was simple and effective, placing the focus squarely on the band’s skill and the strength of their songs. A drum riser sat at rear centre, and a video wall provided a dynamic backdrop throughout the show.

Another two songs from the new album followed, before Daniela took centre stage with an epic guitar solo. The performance powered on with crunching guitars and rhythmic drums as they moved through more tracks from Keep Me Fed and Error, before diving into Survive from their first album, XXI Century Blood – a nice nod to their earlier material.

The rest of the set included further songs from Keep Me Fed and Error, and the crowd – made up of a diverse mix of fans, young and old – sang along enthusiastically. A highlight moment came when Daniela split the audience in two and had each side sing back, creating a real sense of unity and fun in the room.

All in all, it was a stunning performance – clinical, polished, and full of energy. It’s very clear why The Warning are gaining such popularity and why they’ve been “knocking on the door” for the last few years. This is a band on a serious upward trajectory.

Daniela pointed out that this Brixton show marked their largest headline performance outside of Mexico – and based on the reception they received, it won’t be their last at this scale. There’s no doubt they’ll continue selling out bigger and bigger venues in the future.

I hope they return to the UK soon, and I’m already looking forward to any new music they release.

A fun, exciting show. Women in rock are thriving – and that can only be a good thing!
